Georgia election officials have stated that it will take six to nine months to update the state’s voting system with new software and hardware to address security flaws, rejecting calls to complete the updates before the 2024 election cycle. While Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has proposed waiting until 2025, critics argue that delaying the update until after the next presidential election would leave the voting equipment vulnerable to attacks. A group called the Coalition for Good Governance has been suing to eliminate the state’s electronic ballot marking system and proposed using hand-marked paper ballots when security breaches occur, but the State Elections Board rejected the proposal.
