A declassified intelligence assessment released Monday revealed that foreign government efforts to target the 2022 U.S. midterm elections appeared to increase compared to the 2018 elections, involving a diverse and growing group of foreign actors. Iran aimed to exploit social divisions and undermine confidence in U.S. democratic institutions, with efforts limited by competing priorities. The report highlighted that foreign actors avoided technically challenging efforts to change actual votes, focusing on damaging the public perception of election integrity. Read Article
