The Somaliland Electoral Commission spokesperson Mr. Mohamed Ahmed hirsi (geelle) speaking at a press conferences speaking at the brand new commission headquarters has confirmed that the government of Somaliland has deposited the 25% of the funds required for the upcoming local government Election which are due to be held soon. The NEC spokesperson revealed to the press the government of Somaliland had deposited the 25% of the funds required for the upcoming local elections and that we are currently awaiting for the funds which were promised to us by international donors for the process.
Mr. Mohamed said that donors had promised to provide the much needed funds when members of the commission had traveled to Nairobi early this year to meet international donors in an effort to solicit funding for the electoral process but to date no such funds have been made available to us. The NEC spokesperson added that the commission was currently in the process of dispersing officials to all six regions of the country to open offices for the commission in order to prepare and lay the ground work for the upcoming local government elections, in order to ensure the sustainability, integrity and inclusiveness for the upcoming polls.
