Concerned citizens: Florida is set to adopt a dangerous rule that that could make voter caging easier. The Florida Department of state has issued new notice regarding the proposed rule 1S-2.041 “to address and eligibility records maintenance.” The Florida Fair Elections Coalition warns that “If Florida passes proposed Rule 1S-2.041, it will permit officially sanctioned caging (vote suppression) to occur.”

The Florida Fair Elections Coalition warns that rules proposed by the Florida Dept of Elections would make voter caging easier. Rule 1S-2.041 is intended to address maintenance of voter registration rolls.
TAKE ACTION NOW: Concerned voters should contact Maria Matthews, Assistant General Counsel Florida Dept of State to request a workshop on be held on rule 1S-2.041 (email mimatthews@dos.state.fl.us ) .Only if you request it will there be a workshop to discuss the rules and allow comments. If there is no workshop, then voter caging may yet become easier in the state of Florida.

· Rule 1S-2.041: A Notice of Rule Development Workshop was published today in Volume 35, NO. 37 of the Florida Administrative Weekly on proposed rule 1S-2.041 relating to address and eligibility records maintenance. If this workshop is requested, it will be held on October 5, 2009 at 2 pm in Room 307, R.A. Gray Building here in the Florida Department of State.
The latest draft is not yet available. The Division of Elections’ website will include the latest draft on Monday or Tuesday of next week. · Rule 1S-2.033, relating to Standards for Nonpartisan Voter Education, was filed for adoption and became effective on September 13, 2009.
