Pinellas County election workers had to go old-school to count ballots from Tuesday’s primary elections. That meant counting each vote by hand. The primary and backup computers that the elections office uses to connect with all 299 precincts failed Tuesday night, meaning ballots had to be driven to the elections center.
… More than 200 USB flash drives were hand-delivered and processed at the warehouse. Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Deborah Clark said officials became aware of the glitch when the first precincts attempted to report results just after 7 p.m. “When computers work they’re great, but when they don’t it’s not so great,” Clark said.
