In December 2012, a month after the presidential election and after Iowa Western Community College’s special election, Wellhausen told the supervisors about problems during the presidential election and suggested purchasing new equipment.
Wellhausen said the problem in November was the machine’s trouble to detect and sort ballots with write-in votes. The November election was not the first time for that kind of error. Election officials had to manually sort through ballots to account for the write-in votes. There were other machine problems in November.
