Connecticut: Merrill Announces Voter Registration Partnership With AAA | CT News Junkie

With the Nov. 3 municipal elections approaching, Connecticut residents have new options when it comes to registering to vote: their local AAA offices. Secretary of the State Denise Merrill this week launched a partnership with AAA in which 14 AAA branch offices are offering voter registration services. To register to vote, eligible residents can fill out a voter registration card at their local AAA branch. The cards then will be shipped to the state Department of Motor Vehicles for processing, or voters can choose to mail the cards directly to their registrar of voters, according to Merrill.
“I am so happy to partner with AAA to help more Connecticut citizens register to vote,” Merrill said in a statement. “This is a tremendous help to Connecticut’s busy voters and I am very grateful for the partnership.”
As of Tuesday, AAA branches are offering the service, according to Amy Parmenter, public affairs manager for AAA Allied Group in West Hartford.
“When the Secretary of the State contacted AAA and asked if we could offer the additional service of voter registration, of course we said yes, because we are here to help, that’s what AAA does,” she said in a statement. “We are very excited about this opportunity.”
Merrill and AAA announced the partnership Tuesday, which was National Voter Registration Day, in an effort to increase voter participation nationwide.
