In the first Dzongkhag Tshogdu meeting after the local government elections, the four elected gups of Bumthang elected the chairperson and vice chairperson yesterday.
Chokor gup elect and the former chairperson of the DYT was re-elected as the chairperson after winning five votes, one more than his opponent, Ura gup Dorji Wangchuk. The nine tshogdu members used an electronic voting machine to vote. Thromdey member,Karma Legden, was chosen as the vice chairperson through a “Yes” and “No” votes.
As a run up to the upcoming Dzongkhak Yargey Tshogdu (DYT), the dzongkhag finance officer presented the budget for 2011-2012 while the district medical officer briefed them on the rural water supply related issues.
Meanwhile, the three day DYT meeting in Trongsa ended yesterday with the opposition leader, Tshering Tobgay attending the last day for about two hours.
Nubi gup Tashi Penden who is also the DYT chairperson told education officials about some community schools facing shortage of students. Zhemgang dzongkhag will be conducting its first DYT on August 17 and 18.
