Constituencies in the future will be based on a new system of geographical districts to be introduced in 2013, daily Magyar Hirlap said on Monday quoting a draft ministry programme.
In line with the Magyary programme of the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice, districts will replace subregions from 2013. Hungary will be divided into 150-250 districts in the new public administration system and according to the paper, it would be logical to have each district elect an MP.
Considering that the new parliament is planned to include around 200 MPs, decision-makers will have to adjust the network of districts to the election map. It is almost certain that a mixed electoral system will be maintained in Hungary, the paper said.
According to the paper’s information, several maps are being considered at the moment but it is certain that constituencies will be bigger than currently and they will not cross county boundaries.
Hungary will next hold general elections in 2014.
