Two commissioners and the director of elections have been dispatched to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to observe and monitor the presidential and legislative elections in the vast, resource-rich African country.
Technical support will be provided in the deployment of a technical team made up of IT and logistics officers, and in training programmes for CENI (the DRC’s National Independent Electoral Commission) members and deployment of the observer mission.
Ulrich Freyer and Albertina Nangolo will be part of the Electoral Commission’s Forum-SADC (ECF-SADC) observer mission from November 15 to December 1 2011, while Director of Elections Moses Ndjarakana has been seconded to assist with the coordination of the international observer missions in Kinshasa.
Constitutional amendments in the DRC changed the former Independent Electoral Commission of the DRC to the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) following the appointment of a new commission in March 2011.
