Those who haven’t registered to vote by Election Day still have a chance to sign up and have their voices heard. For the first time, Connecticut is offering Election Day registration for Tuesday’s municipal elections, making it one of 11 states to do so. “The right to vote and access to elections is a paramount right and responsibility of our democracy,” Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said in a statement released Friday. “Same-day voting helps to ensure that all citizens have a voice in their government.”
Cynthia Conti, Ridgefield’s deputy registrar of voters, said Friday that each town will designate a place where people can register to vote on Election Day. In Ridgefield, it will be the Registrar of Voters Office at Town Hall, 400 Main St. Conti said people who want to register to vote Tuesday must bring two pieces of identification.
One is proof of identity. That can include a birth certificate, a Social Security card, a driver’s license or a college ID with a photo.
The second piece is needed to establish one’s place of residence, Conti said. A Connecticut driver’s license, a utility bill with an address or nationalization papers will be accepted, Conti said
