State Rep. Richard Raymond regretted the adoption of a legislative proposal that would require people to present a photo ID when going to vote
“It is a measure implemented by the Republicans to try to control and prevent the vote of minorities to vote, it is definitely something that will affect Democrats, ” said Raymond.
The Republicans have 19 members in the Senate where there are only 12 Democrats and in the House, where there are 150 legislators; Republicans are 100 while there are only 50 Democrats.
The new law will require people to present a photo ID like a drivers license, U.S. passport, a drivers license of weapons or military card, when at a voting booth. If a person does not have any documents, the individual is allowed to vote but if the person does not present photo identification within six days, the vote is voided.
“The only thing the Republicans want is for this law to make it harder to vote and those most affected are people from minorities and older people, ” said Raymond.
