Preparations for the upcoming Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are in full swing. Campaigning kicked off on October 9 and will last until 8:00 a.m. October 31. During this parliamentary election, some 1,246 candidates are competing for seats in the 125-seat Azerbaijani Parliament, the supreme legislative body of the country, Central Election Commission Chairman Mazahir Panahov has said. Candidates for members of Azerbaijan’s Parliament at the upcoming elections scheduled for November 1 have received a number of campaigning recommendations from the Central Election Commission.
Panahov has urged registered candidates to comply with the law during their election campaigns and added that legal measures could be taken with respect to candidates who commit illegal actions. In accordance with the schedule approved by the CEC, registered candidates, their authorised representatives and agents, political parties or political party blocs, and their authorised representatives and agents can carry out campaigning.
The CEC reported that according to electoral law, all candidates are given equal opportunities for pre-election campaigning.
Hikmet Hajiyev, the spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, told journalists on October 12 that foreign media outlets are showing interest in the November 1 parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan. He said that the foreign ministry would continue to accredit foreign media to cover the parliamentary election in Azerbaijan.
