The Electoral Commission of Zambia Chairperson Justice Ireen Mambilima has met the 2011 presidential candidates with a call for issue based campaigns.
Justice Mambilima said that the commission would like to see a change in the way political parties conduct their campaigns this year. She has told Presidential candidates to avoid dwelling on personalities and instead concentrate on issues affecting people whose votes they will be seeking on the Election Day.
Justice Mambilima was speaking in Lusaka on Wednesday when she officially opened an Electoral Commission meeting with aspiring Presidential candidates on the 2011 tripartite elections.
The meeting was called to brief all presidential candidates on the requirements for lodging of nomination papers. About 12 Presidential candidates were in attendance at the meeting.
President Banda who is the MMD Presidential candidate arrived for the meeting at about 10.05 hours in the company of MMD chairperson for elections, Gabriel Namulambe.
