The county has dropped the company it has been using for ballot printing and mailing after the company failed to get new equipment certified by the Secretary of State in time for Monday’s printing launch for the November election. County supervisors, during a special meeting Thursday, voted 3-0, with supervisors Gary Ovitt and Robert Lovingood absent, to approve a purchase order, not to exceed $700,000, with Washington-based K&H Integrated Print Solutions, which the county previously contracted with, county spokesman David Wert said.
In December, the county entered into a two-year, $3.4 million contract with Arizona-based Runbeck Election Services for ballot printing and mailing services. The company did all the ballot printing and mailing for the June primary, but has since purchased new equipment that is still in the process of being state certified, Wert said.
“The county became aware about two and a half weeks ago that Runbeck might not get its new equipment certified in time for the September 29 (ballot) print date, so the Registrar (of Voters) immediately began exploring alternatives,” Wert said in an e-mail. “It quickly secured the services of the county’s previous vendor, K&H, in plenty of time to meet the September 29 print date.”
