Large number of voters came to the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) head office here yesterday to elect its board members for the next term. Elections were also held at various branches of the Chamber.
As many as 8,700 voting forms were issued in Muscat alone yesterday, said a senior OCCI official. However, he noted that the number of votes these people can exercise is much higher as one voter may represent scores of his group companies. “One person may exercise his voting for his 40 group companies,” noted the official.
… OCCI has introduced electronic counting machine for the first time for conducting an easy and transparent election. “This will also help to announce the results faster,” said an official. The election results, according to sources, will be announced late in the night.
The Chamber also formed committees for supervising different stages of the election at OCCI headquarters and branches. These committees, aimed at ensuring a more transparent election process, comprise businessmen to receive and register the forms.
For the first time, OCCI has introduced an integrated website for the election. The website displays all information related to the elections, as well as the legal aspects pertaining to them.
