Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) has suggested holding one or two general elections under the caretaker government system until a strong Election Commission is formed.
“Reorganisation of the EC to make it acceptable to all after the present one will be a big political challenge,” party president Hasanul Haque Inu said during a dialogue with the EC on Thursday.
The leftist party also favoured phased introduction of electronic voting machine (EVM) in elections.
“We welcome EVM, but it should be introduced in phases by ensuring that the data will be secure,” Inu told the dialogue adding that it would help minimise vote fraud.
Inu proposed a five-strong EC, including a female election commissioner. “Formation of an acceptable EC is very important to shape it as an impartial and strong body. It’ll be a big challenge to remodel it involving all amid political conflict.”
He said one or two general elections could be held under caretaker government, but the fair elections have to be held under the EC.
