Wednesday there were reports the internet went down at a polling location on Leeds Avenue, which caused people to be processed at a slower rate. Dan Martin, Board of Elections and Voter Registration Members Chair, provided the statements below regarding the voting machines issues.
“The internet went down. We don’t know exactly if the cable was cut but the Comcast system went down so we had no internet and that was the problem… What we did was take over with some air cards until we figured out what the problem was. The issues with the voting machines are resolved at this point. They are operational now.”
Martin went on to say, “The Charleston County technical department worked with Comcast to get everything back up but even though internet was down the location says they still processed all the votes… it just slowed the process down.”
