The city of Edmonton will be testing an internet voting system this fall and is asking the public for their input before next year’s civic election. Various online surveys and meetings will be made available by the Centre for Public Involvement for a practice vote called 2012 Jellybean Internet Voting Election.
“The city’s mock election and public involvement initiatives are designed to gauge whether or not Edmontonians accept internet voting as a viable voting option, as well as test the proposed internet voting technology,” a release from the city said Monday. Results and comments from the public will be used in a report that will be brought to council containing recommendations on if internet voting is a good and viable option for Edmonton’s 2013 general election.
