A pair of state senators could be called as witnesses in the congressional redistricting case set to go before a Leon County circuit judge Thursday. According to documents filed late Monday with Judge Terry Lewis, Senate Redistricting Chairman Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, and Sen. Tom Lee, R-Brandon, could be called to testify about the pair of Senate proposals now before the court.
The Senate has submitted one map of congressional boundaries that was approved by the full chamber during a special session in August and was crafted largely by Lee. It rearranged a large section of Lee’s home, Hillsborough County and adjoining counties but was rejected by the House as likely unacceptable to the court.
After the August special session collapsed without agreement between the House and Senate on a final map, Galvano proposed another map that dialed-back many of the changes in Lee’s proposal.
