Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is introducing legislation to expand online voter registration, which would allow all eligible voters across the country to register online. The legislation would open online registration to nearly 100 million potential registrants who currently are without it, according to an announcement from her office on Saturday.
Gillibrand is set to announce the new legislation on Sunday at a press conference in New York City with a host of good-government groups, including the Brennan Center for Justice, Common Cause New York, and others.
The bill—the Voter Registration Modernization Act—would create a national online voter registration system, requiring all states to allow eligible voters to register online and update their information electronically, according to Gillibrand’s office.
