Phillips County election commissioners Tuesday came up with a “realistic” solution regarding holding a countywide and a Marvell special election on the same day. According to an e-mail exchange between Election Commission Chairman Allen Martin and Election Coordinator Johnny Broome, the company from which the county obtains its election day, ES&S, believes the early voting and Marvell media can be “re-burned” allowing the county special election and Marvell special election to be held the same day, July 14.
“This approach,” said Martin, “would eliminate the need for additional poll books, poll workers and voting machines. This appears to be a good solution to our problems with this election.”
On April 14, the Phillips County Quorum Court approved an ordinance calling for the levying of a ½ of 1 percent sales and use tax to construct, improve, expand, equip, furnish and maintain new or existing jail facilities and to pay and secure the repayment of bonds approved by the voters and issued time to time by the county to finance jail facilities.
