A three-day central annual review workshop organised by the Election Commission (EC) concluded here Tuesday, laying emphasis on the effective implementation of the tasks envisaged by its five year strategy.
The workshop was held to review the works the EC carried out towards voters’ enrollment with photo during the year and formulate future strategy. The workshop was attended by the Acting Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commissioners, EC Secretary and district election officers of 75 districts.
A comprehensive review was made on the reports of the regional review meetings held earlier in Biratnagar, Kavre, Makawanpur, Kaski, Palpa, Surkhet and Dadeldhura. The event also discussed voters’ registration activities and problems faced in respective districts.
Wrapping up the workshop, Acting Chief Election Commissioner, Nilakantha Uprety directed the commission’s employees to accomplish the task of voters’ registration with photo within the remaining period in a well-managed way.
He expressed confidence that the voters’ registration with photo will help make the coming election transparent and fair, adding it will also secure franchise rights of voters to cast ballot to the candidate of own choice.
The task of collecting names and photos of 9.5 million voters in 52 districts has been completed to this date, informed Commission’s Secretary Kishor Thapa, adding the EC is focused to reach this number to 13 million within coming three months.
The commission is making necessary preparations to launch voting through electronic machines in all 75 districts focusing on next election.
