Chief Returning Office Andreas Assiotis has said that there had been attempts over the past 48 hours to tamper with the electronic systems of the Ministry of the Interior. He noted that the measures taken and the means at the disposal of the Ministry of the Interior effectively prevented any serious problems. Assiotis assured that voting was running smoothly.
On Friday a hacker group which threatened to disrupt the elections last weekend by targeting the government websites delivering minute-by-minute results, said they would make a second attempt during the run-offs today.
A new video posted on Youtube called “Anonymous – Operation Cyprus Elections Phase II” and featured an electronic voice and clips of local electioneering. The video said that last weekend the group managed to hack 72 state run websites.
